Week #4

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hello hello again! So I am currently in Las Vegas for Miclynn’s 21st, so I suggest you go tell her happy birthday! Anyway, being that this was only my third time flying, you know I had to get that basic “out the window of a plane” shot! I mean really, if you’re someone like me who doesn’t get to travel very often then this is a must have photo. At least that’s how I feel. I live for gorgeous views and what’s better than an aerial view? I mean probably a few things, but really it’s still amazing. So enjoy this week’s post and be sure to check back next week!

Week #3

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hey guys! So, we’re 3 weeks into the new year and that means 3 weeks done with the 52 week challenge. I’m not going to lie, this week was a little rough. I definitely struggled on what I was going to post and couldn’t decide what I was going to do. It’s kind of sad that it’s only 3 weeks in and I’m already having a hard time. I guess that’s why they call it a challenge! There’s also the fact that I’m always super picky about what I like to photograph. I’m not always pleased with what I take, but if there’s a good enough reason for the photo, I’m more okay with it. That being said, this week I focused on light. Light is basically the key factor in taking a photograph and it’s something that I’ve really grown to appreciate. Whether it’s the way light falls perfectly on your significant other or the way light slowly creeps into your room through the blinds in the morning, there’s just something about it that makes me so happy.

Week #2

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hey friends, two weeks strong so far! (Which obviously isn’t a lot but it makes me feel good because I know I’m already being consistent.) So, this past week was pretty cold & gloomy. I admit I didn’t leave the house for at least 3 days because of how cold and rainy it was. And while I love days like that (for obvious reasons: cuddling under the blankets with hot chocolate and movies), I really couldn’t stand it this week. I wanted to go venture out and take photos so I could post one for today. Of course, I’m not going to let the weather stop me from doing what I need to do. Therefore, I decided to practice on some studio work & lighting. Ever since my studio photography class, I’ve been interested in practicing with different lighting setups. I remember one specific class, my professor was showing us how to shoot with colored gels. That got me interested in trying it for myself. So below, is the final result. Let me know what you guys think!

2014

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

I don’t usually make New Years resolutions, and when I do, I don’t stick to them. It’s usually a mental discussion with myself such as “Hey, let’s try to do this better” and 3 days later it’s broken. This year, I actually wrote down a list of all the things I want to do this year. They’re little things that I feel will really help me be a better me. One of them was to take more pictures. Being in school the past four and a half years, I usually spent most of my time and energy on my projects. I could have made time for personal projects, but I was always trying to put school first. Now that I’m done with school and for the the new year, I decided to take on a 52 week photo challenge. I’m not following any specific one, instead I’m just challenging myself to take and post a photo a week. My photos will be coming from different mediums (film, digital, iPhone) and I’ll be posting every Friday. To kick off the new year, here is my first one!

For Christmas, my boyfriend got me a Fujifilm Instax 210 and I finally used it on New Years. I decided to use the first photo I took with it as my first post. One of my favorite things is when Lyle just sits and plays guitar so I decided to snap a photo while he did. I hope you enjoy my new project as much as I will! Be sure to check back every Friday for a new photo!

Life Update

graduation, Lori Sandoval Photography, musician portraits, musicians, Nikon, Nikon D7000, portrait photography, portraits, sorority

Hi guys! So… I just graduated! And I’m pretty bummed about it. At first, I was really excited because no more projects, no more stress, no more school… you know. But now that I think about it, I’m bummed because I have no more projects (and not so much bummed about the stress part). School was a good thing for me because it kept me working and in a constant groove of creativity. I’m a little worried about losing that but I’m going to try my best to keep at all my artistic talents even though school is over. That being said, I have been working on editing quite a few photos from recent shoots I had. Back in October, I took photos of my friend Paula Cortez and her band. Of course I had so much to deal with in school at this time so I never got around to editing them. With school being done now, I had the time to work on them. I also photographed two of my good friends for their graduation portraits and the lovely girls of KDChi at Our Lady of the Lake University. Links to my website for each shoot will be down below and for now, here are some previews! 😀 I hope you enjoy!

Familiar Silhouettes

fine art photography, gallery exhibition, Lori Sandoval Photography, Nikon, Nikon D7000, student, Thesis, thesis exhibition

Again, long time no post. I have a good reason for it though! I have been running around like crazy the past few weeks getting everything finished for my thesis show. It was complete madness and I ran into multiple problems. Nonetheless, I got everything finished and installed in the gallery in time. It was such an awesome and rewarding feeling to see another semester’s worth of hard work completed, but this time on a gallery wall! Today was the last day to see it so if you missed out, your loss! :p But really, there were so many amazing artists in this show that created amazing pieces and it was all definitely worth checking out! If you didn’t get a chance to go, then click here and check out what I had in the show. It won’t be the same experience though (sad face) but I would still love to share my work with you.

Thesis II

fine art, fine art photography, Lori Sandoval Photography, student, Thesis

Hey guys! I hate not updating very often so I figured I should sort of fill you in on what’s been going on lately. I am currently in Thesis II for Photography. THAT MEANS I GRADUATE THIS SEMESTER!! Okay, okay.. need to calm down. Basically my emotions and thoughts are all over the place. I have a little over a month until my opening. That means I have a little over a month to photograph, print, frame, and set up for the show. If you’re wondering what show I’m talking about well then, let me tell you! Basically, the work I produce this semester will be presented in the art gallery at Texas State. At first, I was pretty whatever about it. However, now that it’s getting closer, it’s getting way more exciting. How cool is that though? My photographs will be hanging in a gallery for everyone to see! Along with the excitement comes stress though. I have to make sure everything is finished and perfect before I can show it. I’ve been slowly working on putting everything together. I’ve also hit a couple of walls while working. However, it’s slowly coming together and I’m so excited to share my final photographs with you. Until then, I’m leaving you with a preview of my Thesis II work. Let me know what you think please! I would love your feedback! 🙂

Paula Cortez EP Promos

Hey guys! So, with school starting up again and what not it’s been both easy and hard to get into the groove of things. I’m in my last semester of school so I’m about to put all I have into my thesis work for my show at the end of the semester (which you should totally come to.. cough cough). So, in the midst of trying to get organized with all the photos I have, and trust me I have lots, I figured I should probably get to editing the promo shots of little miss Paula Cortez for her new EP! I mentioned this shoot a few weeks ago in another post and just recently Paula was in the studio to record her EP! Be sure and support her when it’s all finished! But in the mean time, enjoy these few photos and click HERE to see more! Thanks for reading 🙂 and have a great day!

Maternity Shoot

Lori Sandoval Photography, maternity, Nikon, Nikon D7000, portrait photography, portraits

So last month, I had the honors of doing Gabby’s maternity photos! For this being my first maternity shoot, I was super excited! It was really hot, as it always is in Texas, but she was a trooper. I’m a little late posting these because just a few days ago, Gabby and Francisco welcomed baby Emma into the world! But, better late than never! Hope you enjoy them and check out more photos from her shoot here!
