Week 20; Happy Birthday to Me!!

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hi there! Welcome to week 20 of my 52 week photo project! My birthday was this past Tuesday (MAY 13!) so you know I had to do my own birthday portrait! When I photograph people, I really like to have something in the photo that represents them in one way or another. It could be a physical object or something intangible. So if you know me pretty well, you know that I am not a fan of “growing up”. I’m not really sure of anyone that is actually excited about it now that I think of it. If you are one of those people, more to ya! However, I am not. I’m such a child at heart and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I attempted to have a photo of a “first birthday cake smash” but I really wasn’t about having dessert smeared all over my face. I may be a kid at heart, but that doesn’t mean I’m cool with being sticky and everything.

Super thanks to Paul Cortez for helping out with this week’s photo! I would have struggled big time trying to do this on my own, haha! Enjoy & see y’all next Friday!

Hey guys! Another midweek post 🙂 Today, I am here to tell you about a clothing company that I recently photographed. I actually stumbled across them on Instagram and decided to contact the owner (Lauren) and see if she needed a photographer. It was crazy that she was actually located in San Antonio and happened to be looking into find a new photographer at the time. We exchanged some emails, met up to discuss ideas and then went into our shoot a few weeks later. Our photoshoot definitely got pretty interesting but we had so much fun! Special thanks to all the models and everyone who helped out! And thanks to Lauren for giving me an opportunity to work together with her on this. I can’t wait to have more photoshoots this summer!

Week 19

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Welcome to week 19 of my blog! I will admit that I have been majorly slacking and there’s no excuse for that! I broke the rules again this week, rules being I have to TAKE and POST a photo every week. There really are no set rules, this was just more of a personal rule. Anyway, being that Sunday is Mother’s Day, I wanted this week’s photo to honor my mama yet again! I didn’t want to just be like “Oh, here’s a picture of me and my mom… yaaay…”. Instead, I edited on my iPhone some photos of my mom, my brother, and I. I thought this was still a special and unique edit and even though I’m upset with myself for not actually trying to take a creative photo to post, I am happy that I went beyond just posting an ordinary photo. Hope you enjoy! And Happy Mother’s Day to all you lovely mothers out there! 🙂

Week 18!

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hello and welcome back for week 18! Like what? 18 weeks into 2014 already? It’s already May and I honestly can’t believe it. I’m sort of okay with it though because it’s my birthday month! But that’s not what this post is about. I’m here today to bring you a simple image of the sun setting behind downtown San Antonio. I was driving past downtown (okay, I wasn’t but my dad was) when I noticed how pretty it looked and I just snapped a quick photo on my iPhone. Sunsets are honestly my weakness, even if that’s cliché. I have way too many photos on my phone of the sky during a sunset. So, enjoy this photo until next week!

Week 17💜

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hello again! So, to make this short and sweet, I’m basically breaking the rules of the 52 week photo challenge. But, I don’t really care because it’s my blog & I’m going to do this how I want to! This post is dedicated to my baby girl Sydney. It’s been almost a year without her and I still miss her everyday. She was seriously the best dog I could ever ask for and she will forever be in my heart. And I’ll just leave it at that. 🙂

Just look at that face!! :3

Week 16

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hello everyone! I’m sure you all heard the news about the blood moon that happened earlier this week. I never sleep anyway so I just watched TV and waited around for 2am so that I could go outside and check it out. I was scared that it was going to be a cloudy night or that the moon would be in a weird position that I couldn’t see it from my backyard or something. Luckily, it was straight up in the back without anything blocking it. I was out there for almost an hour shooting but mostly just observing and taking it all in. It was really such a cool thing to see. If you missed it, you can always check out pictures but honestly they’re nothing compared to what it was in person (in my opinion). So enjoy my photo of the “Blood Moon” and until next week, see ya!

Week #15.

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hey everyone! A little late but that’s okay. I haven’t exactly been on top of my game lately. It’s been a little rough to find inspiration. This week, I had decided to bust out my holga camera and shoot. A holga is basically a plastic toy camera with very few settings. There’s not really a lot you can control. Also since it is a plastic camera, some unexpected things such as light leaks can occur. I decided to just experiment with my shooting and see what I could come up with. Unfortunately, I think I may have overexposed a few because I tried some double exposures. It’s okay though! It was all in fun this week. So below are the few images that came out decently to my liking. Enjoy until next Friday!

Maria Tijerina

creative, Other, segmented portraits

Whaaat? What’s this? A midweek post?! Yeah, it’s a little strange but it’s gonna happen at some point. I have other pictures to post sometimes! This post is actually an old photo that’s long overdue. If you keep up with my posts when I publish them, you might remember my segmented portrait series I started working on last summer. I had a post about my friend Maria and how she had just graduated from nursing school & was working on becoming an RN. Well, earlier this year she passed her test and is almost to full RN status! :’) I’m so proud of her. Anyway, here’s her segmented photo that I finally got around to working on. Let me know what you think! And be ready for this Friday’s post! 🙂

Week #14!

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project
So as you may or may not know, my mom’s birthday was this past Wednesday. I featured my dad for his birthday so it wouldn’t be fair to not torture my mom with a photo *evil smirk*. When I told my dad that I was going to take a picture of her he told me, “Well, she’s good at shopping. You can take a picture of her doing that.” Thanks, Dad! But really, I wanted to remake an old photo of hers. She has this thing where she likes to recreate old photos (see examples below) so I figured I would do the same. The original was always one of my favorites because it makes me laugh. Typical 90’s photo right there. So for this week, I did my best to recreate it. She reluctantly let me do this, so I hope you enjoy it! I’ll be sure to let her know what you think about it ;).

Week #13

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project
So this week, I brought my niece back for another photo! She’s at my house everyday so she’s pretty easily accessible. Also, as difficult as it is to make her stand still, she’ll do just about anything I ask her to, which is pretty awesome. Anyway, this double exposure was all done in camera. I could have touched it up after but I decided against it. I wanted a raw photo like you would get with film (although you can touch film up these days too). Anyway, I hope you enjoy and stay tuned next week for another special post! 🙂
