Week 37; Imagination

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hey guys! So, I’m back again this week for another photo. I mean, obviously. ๐Ÿ˜ Anyway, this week I decided to have a little more fun with some lighting while touching on the subject of childhood. As a kid, your imagination is wild and you can make anything happen. Some of us may lose that as we grow older and that’s a sad thought. But you don’t have to! Being young at heart and having that wild imagination that allows you to do anything is something great to hold on to for as long as you can. If you have lost that little spark, maybe you just need to look for it in a place you least expect. Until next week, I hope you enjoy!

Week 36; Film Portraiture

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project
Happy Friday & welcome back to my blog! This week, I’m excited to show you some work I did on film. Maria came over and we had a full day of makeup and shooting. Originally, I had a whole theme to work off of, so I did her makeup and such accordingly. I did have some other props I wanted to add but I ended up forgetting about them completely. So, this week’s photo ended up just being a nice portrait resulting from experimenting with lighting and film. I am overall very pleased with how this came out and I hope you enjoy it as well! ๐Ÿ™‚

Week 35; Rainy Skies

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hello everyone! I haven’t said this in a while but I can’t believe how fast this year is flying by. 35 weeks already!? Ugh. Well, moving on, if you know me then you know I LOVE when it rains. There’s something about the sound of rain falling, the gloomy skies, and cuddling up to be lazy that just makes me happy. However, earlier this week it rained at my house and there were only a few dark clouds. It was still mostly sunny and bright. It was around the time the sun was setting though so the sky eventually started changing colors. If you know I love rain then you also know I’m obsessed with sunsets. So, I was just sitting on my bed probably scrolling through Tumblr when I noticed there was a bright orange cast outside. Everything was just shining with this golden orange color and it was gorgeous. I grabbed my instant camera, since I had it out at the time, and headed outside to check out the sky. It was a beautiful mix of orange and purple and I loved it. I would have snapped hundreds of photos if I could but unfortunately, I ran out of film. However, I love the little triptych I created & I hope you do too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Week 34; End of Summer Raspas

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hey guys! So, sometimes I really enjoy shooting with my iPhone for these weekly blog posts. Sometimes, it’s nice to not stress over having to set up and plan an entire shoot for one photo. And this is one of those times. Today’s post is really simple. Summer is over (womp womp..) and back to school has either already started for some or is about to start for others. It’s really weird not getting ready to go back to school, even though this is my second semester out of school already. It’s just different in the fall. Anyway, in honor of summer I guess you could say, here’s a simple photo of something that screams summertime to me. Raspas are one of the things I look forward to most this season. I seriously get one maybe once a week. They’re even better with ice cream! Anyway, enjoy the deliciousness that is this photo until next week!

Week 33; Ariel

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hello everyone! Let’s get this started! So a little more than a month ago, my friend Maddie dyed her hair bright red. She text me saying, “I think it’s time for another photoshoot”. So we started planning something out; something simple like an updated portrait. Then, in the middle of our conversation she says, “I feel like Ariel”. Um, lightbulb! So, we planned for an Ariel photoshoot. Scrambling around last minute, we finally were able to get our shoot done. If you haven’t seen The Little Mermaid, you’re crazy and you probably won’t understand the reference shots I got. It’s been a goal for a while to do some sort of Disney Princess photoshoot and so far this year I’ve done two! So enjoy these shots & see you next week!

Week 32; Lyle’s Birthday Portrait

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hello, hello! This week I bring to you another birthday photo! Yesterday was Lyle’s 24th birthday and we celebrated with dinner, drinks, hoola hoops, & failed pizza cookies/regular cookies. Anyway, I had a sort of planned out photo of what I was going to post for today but due to the fact that the Texas heat can be unbearable, we didn’t take it. And since we didn’t take it, I mildly panicked about what I was going to post. So, I had to rely on my awesome last minute thinking skills to figure something out. Now, I am all about simplicity so if I can skip out on setting up and using my DSLR and getting all the settings right, I will. All I had to do was tell Lyle “stand here like this” and whip out my iPhone and snap a few photos and I was done. But don’t think I’m lazy and like to take the easy way out!! This is strictly for when I’m in panic mode and in a time crunch. Anyway, here is his simple birthday portrait. I hope you enjoy!

Side note: do you know how hard it is to come up with a creative birthday portrait (on a time crunch) that isn’t super cheesy or intended for children under the age of 4? Ugh.

Week 31; Experimenting

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Happy Friday & Happy August! Can y’all believe it’s already August? Anyway, for this week’s post, I definitely encountered some struggles. Between getting settled back at home from last week’s trip and other scheduled engagements, I hardly found time to think about what to post for today. One thing that has really been on my mind lately is the subject of creativity. I feel like I have really been slacking on that and I have been wanting to find new creative outlets to express myself. I’m just not sure how or where to even begin. This week, I took a piece of glass outside to experiment with some ideas I had. While those ideas didn’t work out, I did stumble upon some happy accidents (in my book). For some reason, I was really intrigued by how the glass was so reflective but didn’t give a perfect mirrored look. I don’t know, I could just be desperate or crazy but I thought it was pretty cool. Until next week, enjoy! ๐Ÿ™‚

Week 30; A California Sunset

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Well, hello there! In case you haven’t noticed, I am currently in California on vacation with my family. Being away isn’t going to stop me from posting! It did hinder my possibilities a bit though. I wasn’t sure what to post at first. My niece had an awesome suggestion but unfortunately I couldn’t capture it in time for today. I don’t want to spoil it just yet because I could still take the photo and show y’all later! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Anyway, we were leaving dinner and I noticed the sun was setting right behind us. So, I rushed back to the hotel room and went straight to the balcony to get this shot. I have to say California sunsets ain’t got nothing on Texas sunsets, but the palm trees add a nice touch! That’s all I have to say for now ๐Ÿ™‚ So until next week, enjoy!

Week 29; Lightning Storm

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Hi there! So, this week my idea for a photo changed quite a few times. Of course, these things hardly go as planned for me because something is always coming up or going wrong. Earlier in the day (Thursday), I had taken a simple iPhone shot of the image I was going to post. It was all set and ready to go until that night. My mom told me to go outside with my dad and look at the show. I was really confused… due to the fact that I was actually napping and she woke me up. I had no idea what was even happening. So, I got up and went outside to see this awesome lightning show happening. I stared and took it all in for a few minutes until I finally decided I wanted to try photographing it again. Again meaning that I don’t think I’ve tried since the first time I “successfully” captured lightning, which was in 2007 with a point and shoot camera. How I did it, I have no idea. Enough rambling, enjoy my lighting composite as well as my first ever attempt from 7 years ago! ๐Ÿ™‚

Week 28; Happy Birthday, Ashtynn!

52 week photo challenge, 52 week photo project

Lately, I’ve really enjoyed preparing for my weekly Friday post. I have it all set up and ready to go so that I’m not scrambling around super last minute. However, this week has been incredibly busy and, well, here I am scrambling around super last minute. Either way, it’s done and ready to go! This past Sunday (July 6) was my niece’s 9th birthday. It really is insane to see how fast they grow up. I now know what it was like for everyone to see me grow up and understand why they were shocked when they heard I was another year older. Anyway, Ashtynn is a little fashionista in training and was super pumped about having her picture taken. She even let me do her hair and makeup! And you know I had to include some extra shots because they were too cute! So, I hope you enjoy & don’t forget to come back next week!

Disclaimer: As I have said in previous posts, I hate pointing out flaws but I feel like I need to say
something about this one. Some of you probably won’t even notice but it’s driving me absolutely crazy.
Please ignore the fact that you can see the carpets beneath the backdrop! I wish I had noticed
sooner that they were so visible so that I could have had a chance to fix it.
