PuraVida Bracelets

Brands

Hi guys & welcome back to another blogpost! After last week’s long post, I’ll try my best to keep this one short. I have some exciting stuff to share with y’all though so let’s get into it.

Not too long ago, I partnered up with a brand called Pura Vida Bracelets. I became a rep for them and received my own rep package in the mail. It took me a while but I was finally able to go and shoot some photos with my new bracelets to help promote their brand.

Pura Vida Bracelets started when it’s founders were traveling in Costa Rica, befriended a couple of bracelet artisans, and brought home 400 of their bracelets. The bracelets sold out so quickly and with everyone asking for more, founders Griffin and Paul knew they had something good going. Today, those two artisans plus many others now hold full time jobs thanks to these two awesome dudes.
You can check out the whole story here! I think it’s really great what this brand stands for.

Check out Pura Vida on Instagram and be sure to check out their website as well! You can use my discount code (LORISANDOVAL20) for 20% off of your purchase! Please share with anyone you think would enjoy a Pura Vida bracelet!

Thanks so much for checking out today’s post! Keep your eyes out for upcoming posts! Until next time, xo!

Family Adventures!

adventure

Hey guys! So, if you didn’t already know, my family came to visit at the beginning of the month. They were here for 11 days but that was not enough time! During their time here, we went to Disneyland, Universal Studios and had so much family time. It was just a magical time overall and I’ve been sad they’re gone ever since they left. Let’s just jump into some details of how our time went!

So, they arrived and unloaded everything into our apartment on Friday night. Eight people tend to have a lot of things but luckily, our apartment is big enough for everyone to fit! Everyone was exhausted from the long drive from Texas so we all just relaxed for the night.

Saturday morning, I woke up to my dad cooking breakfast and, oh my goodness, let me just tell you about how much I missed my dad’s cooking. He was making some salsa and, even though it made everyone start coughing, it made our apartment smell so good. Also, my parents brought some barbacoa from back home and I was so excited. You know I had a taco for breakfast. The rest of the day was spent relaxing and grocery shopping. We ended our night with dinner at Lazy Dog and of course, we took my lazy dog!

Sunday morning my dad and I had to drop off Lyle at the airport because he was flying home for the week. Once we dropped him off, we headed back to pick up Marissa and then were off to Universal Studios! I hadn’t been to Universal since 2008 so it was nice to be able to go back. I was super pumped to check out The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and I was not disappointed. I even tried Butterbeer for the first time and it was delicious. We spent the entire day here of course riding all the rides and we even checked out a show! Oh! The new Walking Dead attraction had a soft opening and of course we went. Talk about terrifying though. My brother in law led the way in, followed by my sister, myself, my nieces and Marissa. We stuck to each other like glue, screaming at every little thing that moved. Roger filmed the whole thing from the front and was just laughing the entire time.

We had decided to spend the 4th in Santa Barbara. We went to the Santa Barbara Mission, chilled out the beach and then had dinner at Mac’s Fish and Chips Shop. I found it funny that we were eating at a British restaurant on the 4th of July. Regardless, the food was delicious!

Tuesday was another chill day. I don’t think we left the house until nearly 5 to head to dinner. We grabbed dinner at Chi-chi’s, which is an Italian restaurant and it’s so delicious. After dinner, we went back to Walmart for some snacks to pack for Disneyland.

Wednesday was Ashtynn’s birthday! We celebrated at Disneyland and, of course, had a magical day. We ran around the park like crazy but it’s always such a blast! There isn’t much to say so I’ll just leave you with some photos.

On Thursday, Morgyn spent her day at the pool, my parents were off at the store, and I chilled out at the apartment with Madi and Ash. We finally headed out later that afternoon and had a fail of trying to get to Griffith Observatory. After that didn’t work out, we went to drop off Lyle’s car at the airport so he could get home the next night, grabbed some dinner and picked up Marissa, AGAIN, on our way back home.

Friday was another Disney day! I brought my camera with me this time so cue more Disneyland photos!

The remainder of our weekend was very relaxed. The most exciting thing that happened was on Saturday morning when my sister, Marissa, Lyle and I headed out to chase a fire that was in our area. I was super sad to see that a place Lyle and I have hiked before was burning. Thankfully, it was contained and some of the area is open to hike again.

Sunday was their last full day in town. We spent the day walking around the Glendale Galleria and then stopped at California Donuts on our way home for some dessert. If you ever visit LA, be sure to stop there! The line may be long but it’s worth it for at least one of their delicious treats.

The rest of the night and the next morning were interesting. Long story short, Morgyn left her purse at the mall and inside that purse was my mom’s old iPhone. Luckily we were able to track it down and saw it was still located at the mall. After many phone calls with security and the stores we had visited, no one was able to find it. Monday afternoon, after my family had already left back home, Lyle and I went back to the mall to look for it. When I had asked for help from a worker at one of the stores, I saw the purse sitting at the register. The girl behind the counter said someone had just brought it over. Side note: when we were there the previous day, we noticed someone left their phone behind on a chair. I picked it up and decided to call the last person they dialed. Luckily, that person was with them. When they realized I was calling to give back their phone, they were so thankful. The guy came back and told me “I don’t know what I did in my life to deserve someone like you to return my phone to me but thank you so much.” It may have been something small, but it felt amazing to make someone’s day like that. I’d like to think that the little bit of good I put out that day, came back to me the next day when we went looking for the purse.

Oh my goodness, if you stuck around to read all this THANK YOU! You’re amazing. I just had so many wonderful things to share about my time spent with my family. Some exciting posts will be coming up soon so be on the look out for those! Love you all, and until next time xo.

Photo Diaries: June 2016

2016

Hi everyone! Welcome back to another photo diary blogpost! I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty sad my adventures for this month were minimal. I did have a few exciting outings but for the most part, I was pretty busy working as much as I could so that I could spend time with my family! They should be here sometime tomorrow and I’m pretty excited about it! Anyway, let’s jump into this June photo diary.

Our first adventure was in Malibu at El Matador State Beach. I had reached out to a brand on Instagram asking if we could work together. They organized it so that I could buy their product at a discounted rate in exchange for an honest opinion. So, I received a Kanga Pocket Blanket from Wild Life Outfitters and we decided to take it out to Malibu to chill out on the cliffs.

Their pocket blanket comes nice and compact in a small bag that can easily be attached to your backpack or thrown in a purse. We took it out to lay it on the ground and discovered that each of the four corners is weighted to help it lay flatter easier. However, that wasn’t the case for us. There’s always a coastal breeze and the past few times we’ve gone to Malibu, it’s been pretty strong. The weighted corners were not helpful to us in these weather conditions. However, the corners do also come with rope attached in which you can use to stake them down. We were not prepared for this at all but at least we now know for future reference!

Super huge thank you to Wild Life Outfitters for hooking us up with their product! I know I can take it out many more times and use it for many different things so that is something I will definitely be doing in the future! My pocket blanket is blue but they now offer three new colors: orange, red and green! If you’re interested in purchasing the Kanga Pocket Blanket from Wild Life Outfitters you can do so here.

Just last week, Lyle, Marissa and I woke up at 6am to road trip down to San Diego to visit Sea World for the day. Marissa just HAD to see Shamu before they cancelled the show. We arrived shortly after 10am, just as they opened, and Marissa immediately started planning our day. She wanted to make sure that we (she) saw/did everything, or at least as much as we could. We saw both killer whale shows, the dolphin show, and Sea Lions Live. We also got on a few rides, fed some of the animals and just overall explored all Sea World had to offer. There isn’t much to say about our day so I’ll just let the photos speak for themselves. By the way, some photo credits go to Marissa as she was nice enough to share them with me for this blogpost!

I hope you enjoyed checking out what was up to during the month of June. Since my family will be here, the next couple of days should be pretty exciting! Be sure to be on the lookout for upcoming blogposts! Until next time, thanks for checking out my blog!

Hey everyone! I’m not sure if you’re tired of seeing about my trip, but, you shouldn’t be. I mean, who doesn’t want to see beautiful places all the time, right? Anyway, for this month’s photo diaries, I figured I would include the rest of the photos from my birthday celebration. Since the blogposts were long enough with my ranting, I didn’t want to overdo it with excessive photos as well. And surprise! A vlog of my trip is here as well! Thank you for letting me bring you along on this trip and I hope you enjoy! Let me know what you think! Until next time, xo.

25th Birthday Weekend

adventure, Anaheim, Disneyland, explore, travel, traveling

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the final installment of my birthday series blogposts! I can’t believe that’s a thing, but apparently it is now. I honestly didn’t intend for this to happen but I had so many photos and stories to share that there is no way this would have fit in one post. Anyway, today’s post starts on the Thursday before my birthday and follows through the rest of the weekend. So, let’s jump into it!

Maria got into LA on Thursday morning so we went and picked her up from the airport. First off, LAX is never, ever fun. Not even like “Oh, my best friend is coming to visit me! Can’t wait to pick her up from LAX!” It’s more like “You couldn’t have, like, teleported here or something? Taken a train? Literally anything else but fly into LAX?” Nevertheless, I was super excited to have my best friend come visit me for my birthday! From the airport, we headed straight to a fave burger spot, The Fix Burger, in Silverlake. I wasn’t feeling a burger this day so I decided to get a grilled chicken sandwich. It was pretty good but, after watching everyone else eat their burger, I was sad with my decision.

After lunch, we headed to Hollywood. Hollywood isn’t somewhere you go just to go. However, neither Maria nor Russell had been, so we figured we could just show them what it was all about. Plus, we may have told Russell he could rent a really nice car for the day and drive it around. We’ve seen guys renting off Ferrari’s and Lamborghini’s on Hollywood Blvd plenty of times. Unfortunately, they weren’t around today.

We left Hollywood to explore some more of the city before the guys left Maria and I to get our nails done. Once we had perfectly polished nails, we were off to Griffith Observatory! Griffith is a very touristy place (as is most of LA) but I actually really love it there. Sometimes, people bring out their huge telescopes and let you take a closer look at the sky. The view (if it’s a clear day) is really nice as well. And the Hollywood Sign is right behind you!

We ended our night with dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Pasadena and some dessert from our new favorite ice cream stand, Afters. If you’re ever in Pasadena, go there and get a milky bun! Glazed! You won’t regret it!

FRIIIIIDAAAAY! So, Friday was my ACTUAL birthday. “Lori, when’s you birthday?” “May ‘tirteent’!” True words of baby Lori (according to my fam). I actually love when my birthday falls on a Friday because everyone else is so superstitious about it but I’m over here running around screaming, “IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!”

Honestly, what better way and place is there to spend your 25th birthday other than the happiest place on Earth? That’s right! I decided to celebrate my turning a quarter of a century at Disneyland! It was probably the best decision I’ve made. The way I saw it was we live in LA and Disneyland is only an hour away. I’d be crazy not to go at least once. Plus, it’s my birthday! I decided to treat myself to something I wanted and knew would make me happy.

I can’t go into every detail of our time at Disneyland because then this post would just be ridiculously long. I can tell you, however, that everything on this day worked out so perfectly. We were able to ride all the rides that we wanted, the timing for fast passes worked out just right and just overall the day was basically perfect. It would have been even more perfect if Pirates of the Caribbean wasn’t closed! That was pretty much the only downfall to the day.

We did spend a full 12 hours at both parks running back and forth so, needless to say, we were EXHAUSTED at the end of the day. I’d say it was all 100% worth it because I love Disneyland. I can’t speak for the others though. You’ll have to ask them how they felt about it!

We had to get up bright and early to drop Russell off at the airport on Saturday. After that, Lyle, Maria and I grabbed some lunch at Lemonade. I’m obsessed with their herb roasted chicken sandwich and truffle mac & cheese. Their lemonade choices are always delicious as well! I would stop by just to grab a lemonade.

After lunch, we headed to Venice to check out the canals. I had always seen pictures but never knew where they actually were. We walked around and checked out all the cute houses that were there. Seriously, there were so many cute houses and I wanted just about every single one of them. I feel like it must be strange living there and having people walking around 10 feet from your door and staring at your home.

We wrapped up exploring this area and went to a small beach in Marina del Rey. We laid out for a while and just chilled. It was such perfect weather for a beach day and luckily this beach was not packed at all! I don’t think many people know about this spot because for a Saturday afternoon it was surprisingly empty.

After spending a few hours there, we decided to end our day early. We stopped and chilled at a coffee shop in West LA for another hour or so before picking up some chipotle for dinner and heading home.

On Sunday, Lyle and I returned to our normal routine. We had left Maria at the airport around noon and I was sad to see her go. Her leaving only solidified the fact that it was time to get back to reality. SIGH… BORING! We came back home only to sit on the couch and binge on Netflix.

I don’t want to end this post on a sad note though. So, I just wanted to say thank you for letting me ramble and share my stories with you! I appreciate all the love so so much you have no idea! I honestly had the best time of my life during my birthday week (that’s a thing too.. oops) and I’m happy I have a platform to share it on. As always, let me know your thoughts!

25th Birthday Roadtrip: San Francisco

Uncategorized

Hello everyone! You’re in for another long post so it’s time to jump straight into our San Francisco adventures!

We drove straight from Monterey to our AirBnb in San Rafael. Our host was the absolute sweetest and super helpful with any questions or concerns we had. After getting settled in with our stuff and the space, we grabbed a quick lunch before going to Muir Woods National Monument. The temperature in this area was in the low 60s and if you know me, that’s freezing. Luckily, I was prepared with my flannel and jacket.

There were signs all along the main trail asking visitors to walk quietly and enjoy nature. And that we did. We made sure to take our time so that we could really observe our surrounds and take it all in. Muir Woods was such a peaceful place, I definitely recommend making the stop here if you’re in San Francisco.

We left Muir Woods to head up to the peak of Mount Tamalpais. The drive up was spent going through winding roads and we were surrounded by the low hanging clouds. We finally got up to the top and HOLY COW, Y’ALL! The views from up here were absolutely incredible. At this point, we were high above the clouds and the sun was shining so bright. It was such a drastic change from the drive up. We spent some time exploring Mount Tam before heading out for dinner.

After dinner, we took a drive up to Santa Rosa so that Lyle could go check out a brewery he’s been dying to visit, Russian River Brewing Company. He was so excited and this was probably his favorite part of the entire trip.

Tuesday was our only full day in San Francisco so of course we had to fit as much in as we could. First stop of the day: Marin Headlands. Of course, there’s tons of people trying to get their view of the bridge so there was no parking. We drove a little further into the headlands and got a nice peaceful view of the bridge all to ourselves. We spotted whales here as well! We saw so much marine life over the past few days and it was incredible.

We went on to explore the rest of the area. Turns out there was a bunch of bunkers and barracks from The Cold War set up to protect the bay against any foreign invaders at that time. It was really cool seeing nature grow into the history of the area.

Once we finished exploring the headlands and Golden Gate, we were starving, so we went to 4505 Burgers & BBQ. Holy…you guys, the food here was so delicious. Lyle and Russell ordered burgers and I ordered a brisket sandwich. I have not had such good BBQ since leaving Texas. It was so satisfying of my BBQ craving. I highly recommend it! After lunch, we stopped by the Painted Ladies in Alamo Square since we were right around the corner. If you don’t know what the Painted Ladies are, they’re the “Full House” houses.

Next, we went to Pier 39. I had actually visited San Francisco when I was 17 and I remember going to all these places. It was fun to do it all again though! We checked out the aquarium, walked around a bit and of course, we had to check out the infamous seals!

We decided to move on to check out what was going on at Haight-Ashbury. On our way there, we took a small detour and drove on the famous Lombard Street. There were so many tourists taking pictures and standing in the middle of the street! They were really stressing Lyle out. After that, we finally got to Haight-Ashbury. Despite our sunny day out at Pier 39, Haight-Ashbury was very foggy. Coincidentally, this is where all the hippies live. We checked out some shops and got to explore around the neighborhood before we realized we could catch the end of the Spurs game. We ended up at a bar and, sadly, watched our boys take a loss.

Lyle’s friend, Nick, recommended pizza for dinner at Little Star. The place was small, cozy and dark and not too busy. We couldn’t decide what kind of pizza to order, so we went with trusty ol’ pepperoni. The pizza was super tasty and the crust was perfectly crunchy.

After that delicious dinner, we went on to meet Lyle’s friend Nick. He was really sweet and welcoming. He showed us his great view of the Bay from his balcony and talked with him for a few hours. We really got to know the guy who has half of Lyle’s heart. (Side note: they play video games together pretty much everyday. That’s how they know each other.) We headed back to our place as Nick had to work the next morning.

Wednesday morning we woke up, packed up our things and thanked our AirBnb hosts for everything. We grabbed some breakfast at a little cafe, which was AMAZING, and then went to Fort Point for our last bit of exploring the Golden Gate Bridge. At this point, we had pretty much seen it from every angle. It never gets old though.

We then headed to the Palace of the Fine Arts to see what was there. We pretty much just walked around the little pond, which was nice for Sadie to stretch her little puppy legs. There were swans in the pond and one snapped at her! She made sure to stay away from the water after that.

After that, we went to Four Barrel Coffee in Mission District. If you know me, you know I love trying new coffee places and this place was an A+ on my list. If you’re ever in the area and need some fuel, definitely check this place out!

From there, we went on to Twin Peaks. No, not the restaurant! It’s a centrally located natural area that rises more than 920 feet! It’s the second tallest peak in the city. The view was absolutely incredible! You had a panoramic view of the entire city and the bay area. We first climbed the peak and holy moly the wind was insane. I honestly thought I was going to be blown away. Then, we went down to the main vista point where plenty of others were gathered. We chilled out, snapped a few pics and then were on our way back to good ol’ LA. Lucky us that we had a local to give us some bomb recommendations. Thanks, Nick!

Next up, I’ll spill all about how my actual birthday went, so be sure to check back for that! Thanks again for tuning in!

25th Birthday Roadtrip: Big Sur

Big Sur, California, Highway 1, Pacific Coast Highway, PCH

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog! I feel like it’s been forever since my last post, but it’s only been a few weeks. Two weeks ago, I took a trip along the California coast to celebrate my birthday! So, let’s just jump right into this post because I have a feeling it’s going to be a long one.

Saturday morning we got up, got our things together and began our road trip north. We made a pitstop in Santa Barbara to grab lunch at a place called On the Alley. Russell and Lyle got fish and chips and I got a fish sandwich. It was super delicious, and if you find yourself in the area, I definitely recommend it!

From there, we got back on the road towards Big Sur. I honestly expected to make a straight drive there but that was not the case at all. I feel like we stopped at least once every hour. One spot we stopped at was Elephant Seal Vista Point in San Simeon. It was the funniest thing to see so many Elephant Seals just being SUPER lazy and fat and cute! Lyle said they were just giant Sadies (my dog, if you didn’t know) because all she does is lay around and sleep all day.

Another place we stopped at was Morro Rock, not to be confused with Moro Rock in Sequoia National Park. The last time I was here in 2008 it was pretty cold and extremely foggy and overcast so you couldn’t even see the rock! This time the weather was absolutely perfect and we were able to explore around the area for a while. We even saw some otters here! Overall, Saturday mostly consisted of driving along PCH and stopping every chance we got to take in the incredible views of the California coast.

Sunday morning we got up bright and early, grabbed some breakfast and headed out to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. The waters of Big Sur are so unbelievably blue it was unreal. We spent a good amount of time (more than we anticipated) exploring this beautiful area. We watched sea lions lay around and spotted another otter trying to break open a shell with a rock. It was the cutest thing I’ve ever seen (I love otters!), and we could actually hear him smashing the rock down with the shell on his belly. So cute!

After spending a few hours exploring Point Lobos, we headed out to grab some Chinese food for lunch. We had a bit of trouble finding somewhere that wasn’t closed or packed for Mother’s Day lunch. The restaurant we found was basically empty (don’t worry, the reviews were still good as was the food!) and we had super fast service, which was beneficial to us as we were in a hurry to get to our next location.

After lunch, we got back on the road south towards Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. On our way, of course we had to make a stop at Bixby Bridge. There were so many people here getting their photos in and enjoying the view. If heights aren’t your thing, you might not enjoy driving this bridge or seeing just how high you are off the ground.

Once we finished up there, we continued on our way to JPB State Park. We found parking on the side of the road and headed into the park and onto the trail towards McWay Falls. It was a really cool trail because it lead you through a tunnel underneath the highway to the other side. Upon walking up the trail to the falls, the view is just absolutely STUNNING and it only gets better the further you walk. We took a few minutes to stare and take in the falls before heading on to the rest of the trail. We were super excited to see water spouts out in the distance. It turns out there were humpback whales in the area and they were super close to shore! It was such an awesome experience to see whales out in the wild.

When we decided we had spent enough time whale watching and being mesmerized by the bright blue waters, we went back on the trail to find another one to explore. The Ewoldsen Trail is a pretty long trail, therefore we only walked about a mile into it. We hung around for a while and walked across fallen trees over the flowing stream. It’s always fun to explore nature.

Finally, we finished up our time at JPB State Park and headed back to our hotel because the boys wanted to catch the next showing of Captain America.

Monday morning definitely called for some coffee. We stopped at Starbucks for some fuel and then jumped on the road straight to San Francisco.  Be on the lookout for the next blogpost about our San Francisco adventures! As always, thanks for reading about my adventures! I hope you enjoyed it and let me know what you think! xo

Photo Diaries: April 2016

2016

Hi there, I hope you’re doing well! Can we just take a minute to talk about how it’s already May? Yay because it’s my birthday month but also, why does this always happen? I’ll never understand. Anyway, we’re here to talk about April adventures, so let’s get on with it.

As I started preparing for this post, I realized I didn’t do much during April. A few outings here and there but, aside from our adventures at Sequoia National Park, nothing major really happened. In the beginning of the month, Lyle, Marissa and I did head out to Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier. I’ve visited the pier a few times, even before moving here, but I’ve never gotten to experience the park before.

We had wristbands that allowed us unlimited access to most of the rides there. Of course, we rode the ferris wheel. The view from the top was perfect. You could see the entire beach and the entire pier, it was just super cool. We also got on the Sea Dragon, which is one of those rides that rocks you back and forth and makes you feel like you’re going to fall out. At least, that’s how those rides make me feel. We rode the rollercoaster, which is another given, and the Pacific Plunge, which is similar to the Scream at Six Flags. Those are probably my favorite rides. You never know when the drop is going to happen and the anticipation is the best part. Lastly, we got on the bumper car.. things. I’m not a fan of bumper cars because I’m never good at it. I always get stuck in some corner. This time, a small boy came at me full force screaming his head off. I was terrified. He kept backing me into a corner and I couldn’t get out. I do not like bumper cars.

Oh and how could I forget that I had my first corndog, excuse me, Hotdog on a Stick. I will admit it was pretty delicious. So, we stuck around Santa Monica until sunset and went on for dinner and who knows what.

One major common reoccurrence was coffee outings. I’m a sucker for iced coffees and I love trying new places. As I was scrolling through photos on my phone, I was amazed at how many times we actually went out for coffee. I leave you with my different coffee choices from some places we have tried. Next month, I’ll have some exciting blog posts up so be ready! Let me know what you think & I hope you have a great day! 🙂 xo

National Park Week: Sequoia National Park

adventure

Hey everyone! It’s been too long since I’ve posted but alas, I am back and with some fun stuff! If you didn’t know, this past week was National Park Week. National Park Week is meant to be America’s celebration of our national heritage. To celebrate, the National Park Service partners with the National Park Foundation and all fees for entering the parks are waived.

Our original plan was to visit two national parks near Los Angeles during this week. However, we figured it’s best we save one for an extended trip. So this week, we headed out to Sequoia National Park. If you remember from my Christmas blogpost, we went to Sequoia National Forest in December. We were pretty happy we took the extra mile (figuratively) to visit the park this time around.

We arrived at the visitors center and, of course, I collected my patch! From there, we drove around a bit to see what we had to explore. Our first stop was the Giant Forest. We made the hike down to see General Sherman, the largest tree in the world by volume! It is also estimated to be over 2,200 years old! Sequoias are insanely massive and there’s nothing like being surrounded by these trees to make you feel so small. We spent some time exploring the sequoias in the Giant Forest before starting to head out.

General Sherman

Tough Twins

On our way out, we took a turn to check out Moro Rock. On the way there, we took a drive through Tunnel Log. Sequoia trees happen to unexpectedly fall over. They’re not really known to rot or decay, resulting in their long lifespans. However, if the soil around the tree becomes too wet, that could be one cause of them falling. Tunnel Log fell in 1937 and was tunneled out for a visitor attraction the following summer.

Tunnel Log

Our last activity before heading out was conquering Moro Rock. I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into when we started our journey up. A little backstory; when we were still at the bottom of the entire drive up, we stopped an an overlook with other visitors. A lady mentioned something about 400 steps to climb to the top of Moro Rock. My first thought was “Um, no thank you.” However, my mind changed once we were standing at the foot of the trail.

Moro Rock

We got halfway up to an overlook and Lyle decided to stay behind. I kept going because I felt I had gone too far to turn around. Once I continued up, I didn’t blame him for wanting to stop. It was somewhat terrifying and some parts weren’t protected by railings so one false move and.. well, you know. It was only a quarter of a mile but it was all up a steep trail so it was pretty strenuous. The view from the top and sense of accomplishment was so very rewarding though. There was a panoramic view of the Sierra Mountain range and it was just so beautiful.

View from Moro Rock

We’re definitely already planning to head back and check out some of the other things we missed. Hopefully next time can be an extended trip. I hope you enjoyed and this inspired you to check out a National Park near you! Check out more photos from our adventure below and as always, let me know what you think & thanks for reading!

Photo Diaries: March 2016

2016

Hi everyone, I hope you’re having a great day! It’s almost the weekend and you can make it through! I believe in you! So, aside from paddle boating at Echo Park and hiking up Vasquez Rocks, March was quite an eventful month! So, let’s just get started in this month’s photo diaries.

Early in March, Miclynn came to visit us again! It’s always a great time when she’s here because we’re running all over the place trying to find as many fun things as we can. I did have to work most of the weekend she was here but the few times we got to go out were fun! As much as we try to avoid Hollywood, we always find ourselves in the area when she’s here. This time, we first went to check out the Wax Museum. I had never been so it was pretty neat. Then, we had birds and snakes thrown on us by the street performers. I’m pretty sure this is the most tourist thing I’ve ever done, but it was still so much fun. We were also accompanied by her friends Abdullah and Yaqoob, who are the sweetest guys ever and so much fun to be around!

A week later, we decided to head out to Malibu for the day. We drove through the canyon down so many winding roads but it was such a pretty view! Marissa needed her fix of Malibu Yogurt so that was our first stop when we got into town. After that, we went down to the beach to chill and watch the sun set.  We sat and talked for a while and watched the surfers. Overall, it was just a great time. Shoutout to Marissa for capturing the waves trying to drown me (a little dramatic, Lori). But really, those waves came out of nowhere. Never turn your back to the ocean, friends!

Finally, yesterday’s adventures included helping out Marissa with a photoshoot, a coffee/tea break, my first Chipotle meal since Lent began, randomly discovering the murder house from season one of American Horror Story and, last but not least, finding the Halliwell Manor from Charmed. I used to watch Charmed every Sunday with my mom when it was on TV and it was our favorite show! I’ve currently managed to convince Lyle to watch it also. I was so excited when I first found out that the house they used was in LA (since the show takes places in San Francisco) and I had been meaning to find it for some time. I’m happy I finally did!

I hope you enjoyed reading about this month’s adventures and I’m so happy I’m able to bring you all along in some way! Until next time, xo!
