A Sunday stroll in Venice

fashion, lifestyle

Hey everyone, I hope you’ve all had a great start to your week! My pup is a bit under the weather right now and it breaks my heart! I just want to cuddle her all day long. Hopefully she feels better soon.

I just wanted to pop in today to share a little OOTD and some other fun things from when Lyle and I went strolling around Abbot Kinney in Venice last weekend. I’ll try and keep it short and sweet so I hope you enjoy!

So, like I said, Lyle and I decided to get out for the day and take a stroll down Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice. It was a beautiful day in the city so we dressed accordingly. However, once we got to Venice, it was super overcast and pretty chilly. Made me wish I had brought a jacket with me, but we were not expecting the dramatic climate change. We would pop in and out of different shops to warm up, as they all had their heaters blasting. This is Southern California so anything below 70 degrees screams “BLAST THE HEATERS!”

One of my favorite shops we went into was Rag & Bone. I’m not one to lust after designer clothing but Rag & Bone has always had my heart. I just don’t have it in me to drop $200 on a pair of jeans or $500 on a pair of boots. Although as of lately, I feel as if I’ve been slowly caving in on getting some boots.

Also, we decided to bring Sadie out with us this day! I’ll be the first to say that she’s the laziest little pup. She’s perfectly happy with sleeping 14 hours a day and waking up for the occasional 15 minute walk. But she does get super excited when we say the words “bye bye”, even though she has no idea where we’re going or what she’s in for. I think this was the perfect little outing for her, especially since the sidewalks were pretty crowded and she ended up being carried half the time.

Of course, what’s a day in my life without stopping for some coffee? Truth be told, I was too full of lemonade for coffee. I may or may not have stolen Lyle’s coffee just for the shot. I did have a few sips here and there to warm up, but I didn’t get my own.

Last, but not least, here’s a little OOTD from both of us! Featuring Sadie, of course. Lyle had just recently cut all of his hair off so I think he was definitely feelin’ himself after that. He loves wearing button up shirts (button down shirts? Idk) and I think they suit him pretty well. He threw on some Steve Madden slip ons and called it a day.

I guess we sort of ended up matching because I too opted for a button up (is it up or down?!) and knotted it at the waist. I threw on my ripped denim from Pacsun and some Chelsea boots from Dillard’s and was out the door.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post! I haven’t written about mini outings in quite some time but I hope to keep doing it soon. Until next time, xo!

Disneyland Days | 2017

Uncategorized

Hello everyone! This year, I decided to take the leap and buy an annual pass so I could visit Disneyland more often. I’m actually pretty excited about it. It’s been very interesting visiting during the off season and seeing the less busy days. It has also been pretty fun to experience the pass holder perks ;)! I hate going so long without a blogpost so I figured I’d just do a mini photo diary of the Disney days with my cousin Marissa so far. Obviously, these are not all my photos so thank you to all the Disney photographers! I hope you enjoy!

Red Rock Canyon State Park || California

adventures

Hello, everyone! I’ve been in a bit of a rut lately, photography wise. I am constantly living with a creative bug inside of me, itching to get out. It’s not always easy, but I try my best to create whenever I can.

Last weekend, Lyle and I ventured out to Red Rock Canyon State Park so that I could shoot. We had so much fun exploring a new place! Anyway, I’m wanting to keep this short & sweet to focus on the photos. I hope you enjoy! As always, let me know your thoughts! I appreciate any feedback. 🙂 xo

2016 || 2017

Uncategorized

Hello again and happy extremely belated 2017! I spent two weeks at home and unexpectedly also took a two week vacay from bloggin’. It was very nice not worrying about getting something up at the right time for everyone to see. I was busy enjoying time with my family, as I’m sure everyone else was. Now that I’m back in LA, it’s time to get back to business.

Today, I wanted to share with you a recap of my 2016 year as well as what I think about 2017. 2016 has a bad reputation for most people. I didn’t want to focus on the bad but instead focus on the good! Also, to make things quick, I decided to just share a list about my 2016 experiences.

16 Things I loved about 2016

1. Finally finding a job with photography after graduating in 2013
2. Flying home and surprising my dad for his birthday
3. Miclynn visiting us, TWICE
4. Road tripping up PCH from LA to San Francisco with Lyle and Russell
5. Celebrating my 25th birthday at Disneyland with my best friends
6. Having my family visit during the summer
7. Visiting Catalina Island for Lyle’s birthday
8. Spending some sweet summertime in Texas
9. Having a job that allowed me to take time off whenever I wanted/needed
10. Checking Portland, Oregon off my travel bucket list
11. Checking Disneyland during Halloween off my bucket list (thanks to MY COUSIN MARISSA!)
12. Being able to explore and travel to multiple places in California throughout the year
13. Road tripping home (again) for Christmas
14. Spending 2 weeks at home visiting family and friends
15. Ending 2016 with my loved ones
16. Surviving an entire year living in LA

2017 has quite a bit to live up to. I have a lot of high expectations for this year and for myself. I’m sure everyone feels super empowered at the beginning of a new year and it’s a great feeling to have! I wish we could always think this way about every day instead of just at the beginning of the year. Here is my (slightly more detailed) list for 2017, in no particular order.

17 Goals & Plans for 2017

1. Focusing on positivity. I let too many things bother me and bring me down. I want to try my hardest to stop that this year.

2. Furthering my career. I have the hardest time explaining to people what it is I want to do. Half the time, I’m not even 100% sure. So, I’ll just leave you with “furthering my career”. Whatever that may be.

3. Worry less. Worry less about what others are doing, worry less in general. Things almost always work out in the end, so why should I waste the time worrying about it?

4. Bring more peace into my life. Taking care of my mind and body is something I worked on a lot last year. But, like I said above, I worry and let things bother me.

5. Explore Los Angeles more. I’ve been here a little over a year and everyday I’m finding new places and areas I want to see. This city is massive and I want to make sure I see as much as I can while I’m here.

6. Travel more. That’s a given. I already have travel plans in mind, but who knows what life has planned for me!

7. Be more open. I don’t quite want to be like Jim Carrey in “Yes, Man” but I also don’t want to turn away opportunities or ideas that I might have before.

8. Read more books. I used to read a book a week when I was younger. That was those pre-internet days though. I want to get back into it this year.

9. Get/stay organized. I say this every year and yet, I have over 7,000 photos on my phone that have yet to be organized. Ugh.

10. Keep on bloggin’. As of right now, I have no idea what the future is for my blog. I have a few ideas here and there, but nothing consistent. My monthly photo diaries was fun, but I don’t think I want to continue it. I need to figure that out ASAP because it’s already almost February. What?

11. Pick up old hobbies. I love to paint and watercolor. I may not be that great at it, but it’s a fun hobby to keep me occupied. I want to do that more this year.

12. Work harder on photo. Another given. I always strive to work harder and better my photography. I hope that this is the year that I experiment more with film!

13. Work harder on video. I played with the idea of creating YouTube videos but I have no idea what content I would create. I just know that video is something I love doing and I want to do more of it this year.

14. Be more thankful. I’m 1000% thankful for everything I have in life. But sometimes it can be easy to get caught up in what you don’t have rather than what you do have.

15. Try something new. Last year, I went parasailing for the first time. Being terrified of the ocean, it was kind of a big deal. But it was so fun and worth it. What should I try this year?

16. Stop procrastinating! Or at least try to. This blogpost going up way later than it should have been is already a bad start. But that’s okay. I’m only human, right?

17. Last but not least, I hope to end 2017 in a better place than where I started it. Not that I’m in a bad place now! I just want to be continuously growing. I would hate to find myself ending this year with no growth.

So, there ya have it friends! A look back on 2016 and what I hope for in 2017. I hope you all have had a wonderful start to this new year! And I look forward to what’s to come next! As always, let me know what you think! xo

Photo Diaries: December 2016

Uncategorized
Hey everyone! I may or may have not have taken an extended vacation from my blog. I spent half of December working my butt off and the other half relaxing at home with my family for the holidays. It was quite an eventful month, so let’s just hit up the highlights.

Of course, you already know we visited Big Bear again this year. You can read all about that here if you haven’t yet. Aside from that, we didn’t do much else in LA. And since flights so close to Christmas are so insanely expensive, Lyle and I decided to make the drive home again. Lots of people say that we’re crazy but personally, I enjoy the drive. I’ve done it so many times already that I’m used to it.

Honestly couldn’t believe this was California. It felt like the PNW.

All the holiday snapchat filters from the road! Also, double dog filter.
When we finally arrived home, we headed straight for all the Tex-Mex we could eat. Honestly, I ate so much Mexican food while I was home. It sucks that California’s Mexican food isn’t the same. But then again, maybe that’s a good thing? Also, I made sure to eat as much BBQ (Bill Miller and Salt Lick of course, yum!) and Whataburger as I could. I’m actually looking forward to getting back to my normal eating habits.

During my time home, I made sure to soak up as much family and friend time as I could. I’m really happy I got to see some of my best friends while in town. Renee is always super busy, so I was excited we were able to match up our schedules and grab some ice cream with Russell. Also, Jon was in town from Japan! That was such a good surprise and was so great to get together with him, Paul and Maria.

I made extra sure to treasure my time spent with my family. The older I get, the more important it is to me. Family has always been important, but especially now that I’m away. I visited the Alamo with my sister and nieces. Exploring downtown is always fun to me! We made a trip through the Hill Country to Salt Lick, YUM. Of course, Christmas and New Years I spent with the fam as well. I’ve never been one to go out for NYE but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Also, you can bet I was super excited to spend my time with my pup Sierra. I’m always super sad that I had to leave her behind, but it was for the best. She’s not a Cali dog and would hate being stuck in my apartment all day.

Overall, I was very pleased with my time spent at home. Of course, it wasn’t enough time but I’m super thankful I was able to spend two weeks at home. It’s nice to slow down after dealing with the hustle and bustle of the city. My next blogpost will be a 2016 recap / 2017 plans so be on the lookout for that! As always, thanks for reading! Love each and every one of you that take the time to read about what I have to say.

Annual Christmas Photos | 2016

2016, adventures

Hey y’all! Today, I give you the post you’ve anticipated all year long! Probably not, but humor me would ya?! Every year I’ve thought, “That’s it. This is the best I can come up with. How will I top this?” And again, every year, I manage to find something different for us to do.

This year, the idea of matching pajamas/onesies came to me when looking through the weekly Target ad. Now, I don’t necessarily feel like I’ve “topped” previous Christmas photos. I’m just happy I found something different to do, at the risk of being a thousand percent cheesy. Shout out to Lyle for dressing up in this Santa onesie for the sake of our photoshoot! Also, I had just gotten Sadie a new Christmas sweater so of course she had to be part of the photos. I don’t think she was feelin’ it though.

Earlier this day, we had taken another road trip out to Big Bear. My original plan was to do the shoot outside in the snow. I just wasn’t ready to be all kinds of looked at setting up a tripod and camera and running around in matching pjs. That’s why I decided to throw it back to our wrapping paper backdrop.

But, back to Big Bear! There was twice as much snow on the ground compared to last year and I was super excited about it! I dressed Sadie up in her cute new sweater and let her run around in the snow. That only lasted about 10  minutes before she made her way to a rock and sat there shivering. We played in the snow for as long as we could handle the cold.

When we couldn’t take the cold anymore, we headed back to the little town to grab a cup of coffee and hang out by the fire. We wandered the streets for about 45 minutes before heading to the lake for some last minute views.

I really hope you enjoyed today’s post. Only a few more left for this year and then who knows what’s going to happen next year! As always, thanks for reading! Until next time, xo.

Photo Diaries: November 2016

Uncategorized
Hey guys! So, I’m going to be a little bit honest here. I almost forgot about posting a November Photo Diaries. The idea was there in the back of my mind, and I was constantly thinking about it. But, when it came down to actually posting it, I completely forgot. Since we’re in the midst of honesty hour, I’m also going to say that November wasn’t actually that interesting. Worked a lot and also did a lot of nothing. I’ll leave this post as what it’s intended to be, a PHOTO diary. I hope you enjoy! xo

Had a lot of coffee dates. What else is new?
Werk, werk, werk.

“Lazy” Enchiladas & Korean BBQ

Enjoying that Malibu sunset.

Special Date Night ft. Turo

Uncategorized

Hey everyone! I was recently introduced to Turo and challenged to share with you my ideas of a special date night. I’d like to think I’m pretty easy to impress because I like to keep things simple. Grabbing a cup of coffee or going for a nice drive are things that I would enjoy for a date night.

I do, however, think it’s fun to change things up a bit once in a while! Doing the same kind of thing every single date night can get tiring. I think it would be fun to maybe rent a nice car to take out on a drive! Turo is a peer-to-peer car rental company, meaning you can rent from others who list their vehicles. You have hundreds of options to choose from so you can book the car of your dreams!

All you have to do is sign up with Turo and have your identity and eligibility confirmed so you can become an approved driver. Then, you can enter your travel dates and location and book your car. You can meet the car owner or have it brought straight to wherever you are! Then, you’re free to adventure wherever you please! When your trip has come to an end, just make sure you refill the gas you used up and meet with the owner again to return the car.

So after renting a car, my special date night would begin with that perfect cup of coffee. After that, a nice drive through the mountains would be amazing. It’s always fun to pull over where you can and take in the view! Then, date night would end by catching the sunset over the ocean, mountains or wherever you can before grabbing dinner and heading home.

I hope you enjoyed today’s blogpost! Hopefully it inspired you to change up your date night routine, whether it’s by renting a fun car or just going somewhere new! Be sure to check out Turo’s instagram at www.instagram.com/turo. Thanks for reading today, and until next time, xo!

Explore Portland, Oregon: Outdoor Adventures

Uncategorized

Hello everyone! Welcome to last installment of my Portland series blogposts. Finally, I know! Today I wanted to share with you all the outdoor adventures near Portland! Most of these locations are only about an hour or so outside of the city so they’re easy day trips to get away to. I want to try and keep this one short and sweet but there’s a lot to get to so keep on reading!

CANNON BEACH, OREGON
Ecola State Park & Cannon Beach

Our first outing from the city was to Cannon Beach, Oregon. Located about an hour and half outside the city, it’s an easy, beautiful drive through the forest. Of course, it rained just about the entire time to and from the coast, but what’s visiting the PNW without a little rain right?

When we arrived to the coast, we went to Ecola State Park. The weather this day was not exactly “beach weather”. It was very windy and very cold. We first stopped at the secluded Indian Beach and pretty much just walked up and down the coastline. We watched crazy surfers endure the frigid waters and crazy waves and seagulls attack crabs that would wash up on the shore. That was definitely added to my list of “Coolest Things I’ve Seen in Nature”.

We wandered around until we couldn’t bear the cold anymore and ran back to heat up the car. We made one last stop to take in the views of the Pacific Coast before heading to Cannon Beach.

Cannon Beach was definitely a super touristy town, but super cute nonetheless. We definitely had a hard time finding our way to the beach. Don’t get that confused with “we didn’t know where the beach was”! I’m pretty confident in knowing which way the ocean is. We just didn’t know HOW to get there, as far as beach access. We ended up parking in a nearby lot and walking right across the street to it! I didn’t feel so bad when we were heading out and others were asking us how to get there.

Cannon Beach was absolutely mesmerizing. We wandered out onto the beach and I ran around in the sand so happy to be there. Like I said, it was extremely windy and extremely cold. My poor Sadie did not appreciate that, thus spending most of her time wrapped in blankets in my backpack. After getting to the point that I could no longer feel my toes, it was time to pack up and head back to the city.

COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE
Multnomah Falls & Latourell Falls

The Columbia River Gorge is the perfect place to head to if you’re as enamored with waterfalls as I am. Beginning about 30 miles outside of Portland, there are amazing trails, views and waterfalls to fall in love with. There are two I want to tell you about today but as always, definitely explore for yourself and see what you can find.

Multnomah Falls is definitely the tourist stop of the gorge. You’ll have to fight for parking and fight for that Instagram shot, but I would say it’s definitely worth it. It was an absolutely gorgeous sight. After seeing it countless times on my Instagram feed, I still was not disappointed. After seeing the Spurs visit just last year, I knew I had find my way there ASAP. So happy I finally did.

Latourell Falls is very underrated. You can view it from the parking lot, but why not get closer right? Lyle was brave enough to scramble across the wet rocks and get almost right under the falls. I wish I would have gone as well but I had my camera equipment to attend to. Either way, it was a massive waterfall and I could have stayed there for hours being hypnotized by it’s beauty.

MOUNT HOOD NATIONAL FOREST
LOST LAKE & TIMBERLINE LODGE

We actually spent the last half of our trip at an AirBnb in Hood River, Oregon. Staying here, we had easy access to Mt. Hood National Forest. Hood River was a cute town by day, but shut down pretty early by night, so there wasn’t much to do.

Our first stop out in Mt. Hood was Lost Lake. We went on the last day they were open for the season, which was lucky for us because everyone was just about gone from the campgrounds. We basically had the entire lake to ourselves and it was amazing. It was so serene to just sit and watch Mt. Hood dance in and out of the clouds from the lakeside. We explored around the lake a bit before snapping a few photos for my friends at Weekend Tee.

Timberline Lodge was recommended to us by our Airbnb host. It sits at the base of Mt. Hood and was actually used in the filming of The Shining for a few exterior shots of The Overlook Hotel. The Shining is one of my favorite movies, so I found that little fact pretty exciting! On our way up towards the lodge, we pulled over and noticed it was already snowing! We stopped for a few to look around and freeze our butts off before decided to head back down the mountain.

Since this is the last you should hear of Portland (no promises), I’ll end it by sharing the video of our trip! I hope you enjoyed this mini series slash the way I broke down our trip this time around. I tried to make it informative and helpful for whoever is planning a trip out to Portland! If you’re ready to book your first trip with Airbnb click here for code from me! 🙂 Again, I hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading!

Explore Portland, Oregon: Things To Do

Oregon, Portland, travel
THINGS TO DO IN PORTLAND, OREGON

Hey guys! I apologize I’m so behind with these posts. Our trip was the beginning of October and here we are with Thanksgiving coming this week and I’m still working on them. I’ve been so busy and it’s been rough, but that’s no excuse! I have one final blogpost after this and then I promise you won’t have to hear about Portland again. That’s probably not true but it’s okay. In this blogpost, I’m going to give you some ideas of what to do when you travel to Portland!

POWELL’S

If you’re a book worm, visiting Powell’s is definitely the spot for you. When I was younger, I swear I would read one book a week. Books are still near and dear to my heart, especially in this age of technology where you can read a book on a device; there’s nothing like the smell of a new book and getting lost in flipping the pages.

Powell’s is the largest new and used bookstore IN THE WORLD. Don’t let that scare you off though, they provide maps to let you know where in the store to find the book you need. Isn’t that insane? According to their website, the building occupies an entire city block and houses approximately ONE MILLION books. Sorry for the all caps in this post so far, I just really want to emphasize these insane facts. I could have left that store with an armful of books. So, like I said, if you love a good book there is no doubt that you will find one here.

INTERNATIONAL ROSE TEST GARDEN

How else do you visit the City of Roses and not go to the International Rose Test Garden? Well, I suppose you can, but you shouldn’t. It was a surprisingly sunny day for the Pacific Northwest so it was the perfect experience for visiting the rose gardens. I’ve never been one to enjoy the smell of flowers. However, the smell of all the roses was so overwhelmingly therapeutic, I couldn’t help but smile. Sadie loved sniffing out all the flowers as well! I definitely recommend stopping by this gem and seeing for yourself.

PITTOCK MANSION

Pittock Mansion was recommended to us by our Airbnb host. We drove through Forest Park, which was a beautiful drive by the way, and headed towards the mansion. We decided to skip out on the tour and just check out the surrounding area. There’s a beautiful spot that overlooks the city so Lyle and I decided to sit and take it all in. The weather was absolutely perfect, given that fall had just barely arrived. We sat at a bench and enjoyed the view while an elderly couple sat behind us with a picnic to do the same. It was the cutest thing I had ever seen! That just goes to show that all ages can enjoy this picture perfect location!

ALBERTA ARTS DISTRICT

We grabbed a bite to eat in the Alberta Arts District in Northeast Portland quite a few times while we were there.  I really wanted to walk around this neighborhood but sadly, we never got the chance. I can 100% vouch that this area is freaking cute and you need to check it out. There’s plenty of places for dining, shopping and the arts so what’s not to love about it?

MISCELLANEOUS

There’s plenty of miscellaneous things to do around the city, you just have to go exploring! Wandering around downtown was one of my favorite things to do. There’s something about the downtown area of cities that has a special place in my heart. While exploring downtown Portland, we stumbled across some cute vintage shops that were fun to pop into and check out. You never know what you’ll find so just keep exploring! That’s always my best advice.

Of course, I wanted to find the “Keep Portland Weird” sign. When researching it’s location, I found out it was actually located near VooDoo Doughnuts! So, if you’re grabbing a donut, you might as well just walk around the corner to snap a pic of this famous wall.

If you’re interested in seeing the famous “Portland Oregon Old Town” sign, just head over to the Burnside bridge! And speaking of bridges, Bridgetown is another nickname given to Portland. That is because there are TWELVE bridges that cross the Willamette and Columbia rivers. Pick a bridge, any bridge to stride, bike, or drive across.

There’s so much to do in this lovely city, don’t stop at exploring this short list! These are only the things we found time to do while we were there. Let me know if you’ve ever been and what you did while there. I hope you enjoyed reading! Remember to be on the lookout for the final blogpost on outdoor adventures. Until next time, xo!
